About this event

The St Andrew’s School Foundation invites you to attend the Annual Foundation Cocktail Party to celebrate the achievements of St Andrew’s old scholars, hear about the Foundation’s plans for the coming year, and listen to our engaging guest speakers from the creative industries:

Assoc Prof Ian Dixon, Nanyang Technological University Singapore and St Andrew’s Old Scholar

Ian has worked as writer, director, actor and script editor, studied drama, cinema studies and English literature at the University of Adelaide and Flinders University as well as filmmaking at the University of Melbourne, VCA School of Film and Television (where he also completed his PhD). Ian currently lectures as Associate Professor at Asia’s number one ranking communications and information school at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Funded to write feature films through Screen Australia and Film Victoria, Ian’s films have won awards internationally. He has directed television for Neighbours, Blue Heelers and SBS TV and his debut feature film Crushed screened at the world’s largest arthouse chain, Cinema Nova in 2009.

On stage, Ian took over from Hollywood A-lister Guy Pearce to play the lead in Grease and has performed in many Australian television productions including: Underbelly, Rush, City Homicide, Guinevere Jones, Martial Law, Blue Heelers, Stingers, Heartbreak High, and Shadows of the Heart.

Ian will be sharing with us his journey since leaving St Andrew’s School in 1978.

Cheryl Bridgart, Artist, Designer and Textile Artist

Cheryl is an internationally recognised master of the artform of Fine Art Freehand Machine Embroidery (FAFME), creating portraits, fantasy pieces, animals and landscapes. Inspirations come from her dreams, nature and life. Cheryl has exhibited, taught and has works in collections in UK, USA, Asia and Australasia.

In addition Cheryl is an accomplished painter and designer. She designs and crafts museum quality couture art to wear. She does not own any clothes that she has not designed and made herself.

St Andrew’s School was privileged to have Cheryl, also a qualified art teacher, run the School’s art program from 2000 to 2009.

Cheryl will be demonstrating the art of FAFME at the event, and her works will be available for viewing. Cheryl and her husband John have kindly donated the use of their studio gallery Beltana House, a 160 year old converted horse stables, for the event.
